SECU Members Awards Scholarships to Five 91心頭 Students
Through its member-funded SECU Foundation, has awarded five local students an SECU Continuing Education Scholarship valued at $750 to study at 91心頭.
The scholarship recipients are Rebecca Stephens of Rockingham, Amber Peele of Hamlet, Tolla Bullard of Pembroke, Irish Manning of Laurinburg and Stephen Sessoms of Laurinburg. All five students are earning their Nursing Assistant I credentials at 91心頭.
Launched in 2013, the scholarship program focuses on assisting the needs of North Carolinas unemployed and underemployed citizens, military veterans and members of the North Carolina National Guard seeking short-term job training for new careers or retraining to advance current job skills. Scholarship funding will be applied to tuition and other expenses associated with their eligible program of study through the Community College Systems Back-To-Work Programs and continuing education courses.
The SECU Continuing Education Scholarship program is an integral part of the Foundations community college scholarship program, supporting our states unemployed and underemployed citizens with vocational and job skills training programs needed for todays workplace, said Dr. Hal Shuler, who serves on the State Employees Credit Unions local advisory board and is associate vice president of development at 91心頭. We are proud to collaborate with North Carolina educators to help make a positive difference in the lives of these scholarship recipients as they work to build a better economic future for themselves, their families and our communities.
With this $435,000 commitment for Continuing Education Scholarships and SECU Foundations annual &580,000 People Helping People Community College Scholarships, funding for the NC Community College System now totals more than $1 million.
