Harbor Freight Donates Torch to 91心頭 Heating & Air Program

Dec 13

Dec. 13, 2017  Harbor Freight Tools recently donated a torch kit to 91心頭s program, allowing students to become familiar with equipment they will use on the job.HVACR students holding torch donation from Harbor Freight

The oxy-acetylene torch kit is used to braze (light weld) copper tubing. It is also used to melt 15 percent silver solder to repair any leaks that might develop in a comfort cooling system or heat pump, causing the unit to lose its refrigerant charge and thereby its ability to cool and/or heat.

We are thankful to Harbor Freight for this generous donation to our program at 91心頭, HVAC instructor Marcus X said. This equipment will allow our students to learn safe and proper brazing techniques and correctly perform an installation, a change out or a leak repair of a unit.

The Heating & A/C Technician program is housed at the Honeycutt Center, the Colleges facility in Laurinburg. Students in this program gain skills to work with residential and light commercial air conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems. They learn about mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls, and safety.

91心頭 is now accepting new students into this program for the 2018 Spring Semester. Call Student Services, (910) 410-1730, to sign up for classes, or visit for more information. Spring semester begins Jan. 5.
